Before Claude Code came out—first as a “limited research preview” in February 2025, then as a general release that May—the state of the art was vibe coding. People were paying hundreds of millions of dollars for tools that let a human programmer steer through a coding project while AI filled in specifics along the way. But Anthropic’s new product, like the Jam demo, worked directly from a computer’s command line, meaning it had access to all of a developer’s files and applications. TikTok has partially attributed the issue to algorithm testing and to the platform’s restructuring under U.S. regulatory pressure, including a proposed deal involving Oracle to retrain its recommendation system. In January, TikTok finalized a $14 billion deal forming a new U.S. joint venture with Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX, ending a years-long legal standoff over ByteDance’s Chinese ownership. The new entity intends to retrain TikTok’s algorithm on U.S. user data, with Oracle overseeing storage.
